In the cracks of the virtual world
A facebook was dreamed and born
Designed as a socialite platform
It creaked as it made its appearance
A new media and an interface
It merged family, friends and foes
With daily thoughts and experiences
A beauty of diversity on display
Invites, requests and suggestions
Games, causes, photos and notes
All together, they ebbed and flowed
At the touch and click of a mouse
A modern interaction has morphed
With events, reminders and highlights
A pastime, a mania and an obsession
Where feelings and comments come alive
Facebook, a virtual book of faces
Where friendships are resurrected
With applications to chat and to share
A mirage of ourselves and our lives

perceptions
Perception resides on an angular plateau,
Measured by its height and depth,
Of exposure to relationships and pieces,
In knowledge and experiences of life.
Like opinions, it differs with individuals,
Yet perception is stronger than truth,
As deceptive as a mirage, it’s the nucleus
Of emotions, which forges our attitudes.
Each of us is an island of thoughts;
Twisted in wavering philosophies,
Understanding ludicrously embedded–
In differing muses and layers of perspectives.
In such opulence, is diversity nurtured,
Ennobled to accommodate differences,
We dwell in slums and ruins of thoughts,
To wholesomely perceive an act as odd.
Perception, you pronounce judgements;
Prejudicing our thoughts and actions,
Taunting, insulting and criticizing others,
Are you not projecting your acts on us?
Perception, source of Einsten’s relativity;
Why triumph over the blunders of others?
When only Time determines substance,
Always, leaving in its trail, a slum of regrets.
Measured by its height and depth,
Of exposure to relationships and pieces,
In knowledge and experiences of life.
Like opinions, it differs with individuals,

an addict's mirage
I had seen it on television and in movies,
In novels, tales and legends, have I heard,
What it felt like – the ups and the downs,
The ecstasies, the sensations and deflations.
Like the aroma of freshly baked bread,
The scent floated and wafted towards me,
The picturesque presentation of the act,
Invoked in me, an enigmatic craving.
In pursuit of adventure, my ego ballooned;
Like a fresh fragranced flower in the morn,
Like the tantalising tingling taste of a fruit,
My senses seduced, my mind made up.
The first time, my world was mesmerised,
Enchanted in luxury, sparkling with liveliness,
I tasted ecstasy’s rapture on a blissful plain,
And experienced light’s illuminating flare.
It was the ultimate vacation terminus;
Where neither time, nor space had sovereignty,
A little paradise where worries waned,
And dreams dwelt deep in dignity.
I was the creator, the king and the subject,
And I could slip in and out of it anytime,
It was my world and I reigned with pleasure,
It was fun, until it took control of me.
A revolutionary republic turned rebellious,
A prince turned prisoner, I lost myself,
A dictator turned devotee, I’m called names,
A creator, addicted to the decrees of his creature.
Farcical, but my escapades got me captivated,
All I wanted was to ride an enthralling ecstasy,
A lift, and a laugh later, I became a loser,
An addict’s mirage, drenched in a spit of saliva.
