i caught a nap

Knackered and weary,
I closed my eyes;
The cool murmur of a breeze,
Hovered over me.
Picking me up like a leaf,
Caught in the wind,
Over planets and galaxies,
Into another world, it set me.

Supple, gentle snores,
Echoed around me,
Tranquillity filled my nostrils, and
Light-headedness enveloped me.
Into space I floated,
A thousand dreams, I dreamed,
And freshness breathed on me.
It was a nap I caught.

colour black

Black is beautiful and bold,
The strength of all colours,
Source of happiness and sorrow;
Of clout and of luxury.

You absorb all things, O black,
Presence and absence of colour,
From thee, light takes it meaning.
You are the north.

You are the blend of all,
Your nature is unifying,
Style emerged from you,
And gracefulness is your stem.

Fallacious, the lies spread;
Taunted reasoning, they lack.
Who can soil thee?
In purity were you brood.

In you we associate our beliefs;
Perfection, prosperity, prestige
Sexy, elegant and powerful.
Strangely, we mourn in you too.

pretty woman

The very first glimpse of you,
Blinded me like the sun’s rays,
Like a transfiguration, you stood;
Like fascination, my nerves stirred.

Erupting affection and longing,
My thoughts filled with fantasies,
Like taste, I savoured every moment;
Like selfishness, I wanted you for myself.

Your smile inebriated my spirit,
My will, I humbly lay at your feet,
Like a servant, I’m at your service;
Like the sunflower, I bow at your rising.

Your gracefulness emits delight,
Gleefully composed to glorify nature,
Like precision, your stride steps splendidly;
Like a red carpet, I scatter flowers for you.

As finical as chocolatey, your skin,
Marinated in shea butter, sweltered by sun,
Like glow, it radiates within sight’s radius;
Like elegance, you carve lustfulness in men.

An undulating landscape, your curves,
Shaped to fit the contours of the palm,
Like yearning, my thoughts welled desire;
Like enthusiasm, sensuality flourished.

The first words out of your mouth,
The wax melted out of my hearing,
Like mesmerise, I heard melodic tunes;
Like surrender, obedience is my maxim.

Oblige me to smile your pain away,
Filling your thoughts with happiness,
Like forever, our blissful moments will last;
Like an empress, soaked in an aromatic bath.

corruption is dead

What nature have you created for yourself?
You back-stabbing, sleazy fraudster;
Your temperament is tainted, and non
Wants to be publicly associated with you,
Yet, your features are embossed on souls;
Strange, you imprison a nation and a continent.

You have not an ounce of honour, nor dignity;
A blood vow to usurp sincerity and wisdom,
Your siblings’ are greed and gluttony,
Acquaintances with misdeeds and negligence,
You perpetrate greed and egoism in men.
Pranks and a hoax you played on my people.

How did you achieve such a dramatic feat?
You bait my people with mirages of wealth;
Entangling an endowed continent in your web,
Hunger, sickness, famine, poverty and death –
You unleashed. You have humiliated justice
And freedom has lost its footing on solid ground.

How proud and boastful you have become;
You have given power to fools and sycophants,
Wise and frank men have to bow before them.
You even control the hearts of those who speak,
Against you, and royalty squirms in our presence,
Your snickering angers me.

You have caused men to isolate honesty,
Humiliated and crippled, she is mocked.
A trap for candour, have you laid in his misery,
Hoping to cower him into submission,
But the thread of light at the end of the tunnel,
Is hope for sincerity and faithfulness to sprout.

Like Romulus and Remus, I’m distinguished;
Genuineness was my nurse and confidant,
Truth taught me oratory skills and guts,
Boldness helped me take my first steps,
And Integrity has being my best pal.
Now I’m all grown up and I’ll crush you.

I plucked the first fruits of faithfulness;
Inspiring candour to rise from his misery,
Virtue is in the pink, smiling with a grin,
And values, is visiting homes evangelising
A formless campaign strategy to box you in,
The message – let us eradicate corruption.

Your tricks laid to bare, disgrace is snarling,
And humiliation has shown it true character,
Corrupt men have regrets written on their faces
They hate themselves for buying your lies,
Their hearts and souls, have we won back;
A changed people, an enhanced perspective

They understand the harm they caused others;
Pardon us, forgive our injury, they pleaded,
And the aroma of forgiveness filled the air.
They are giving back to society what they stole,
A hundredfold, a thousandfold and more,
They are conscious of their actions now.

Come, let us rejoice; for corruption is dead;
And prosperity, has returned to our homes again
Our ancestors twitch no longer in their graves;
The distorter, of our adult and youth is no more.
Her reign has been toppled; her ashes scattered,
A new queen, Integrity, rules our hearts and mind.

hi-life music

Ke ke ke, sounds the fritwiwa;
Signalling the band, a 1-2-3 and go,
In a harmonious unison, bells,
An array of drums, strings, triangles,
A xylophone, trumpets, flutes, shakers,
Belt out a virtuosic instrumental style,
A blend of mono and poly beats;
The tempo of rhythms; pleasantly pleasing,
Fills the atmosphere with melody,
Pulsating and vibrant, the thumping,
Shakes Asaase Yaa to its feet.

Enters the rich baritone voice and voices,
Words and phrases, arranged,
To follow an intonation’s contour,
Awakening the soul, stimulating bubbly,
And spirited movements, dancing we call it.
Gleeful faces, radiating smiles,
Hearts full of ecstasy, Shouts of joy,
Whistling, clapping, and laughter echoing
Into the clouds and the galaxies in space.
Tis our appreciation for music so sweet,
So tunefully harmonious with nature,

Tis hi-life, nature’s own song of joy,
It’s her melodic conversation with us,
To stimulate our emotions and pulses,
Hi-life, an awe-inspiring experience,
Healing our sorrows and life itself,
Elevating souls above existence,
The message carried far and further,
It quivers and quickens our empathies,
Feelings of goodwill, peace and love,
Its hi-life, the buoyant tempo music;
The richest tune known to mankind.

a poisoned arrow

Like a mist, she glides across the spaces,
Draped in beauty’s stunning gown,
And charmed with adornment by chic–
She decrees presence, magical as a sweep.

As desirous as arousal, she invokes men,
Throbbing hearts and engulfing fantasies,
They smile logic away, citing emotions–
And their souls, they trade for her attention.

As shivery as a feather, her victims select,
Embracing their egos with her sensuality,
Swollen headed and pulsating buoyancy–
They convulse admiration into arrogance.

A heady partner, she stimulates virility,
Intoxicated with love, impelled with sex,
Served deliciously with erotic exquisite–
Good men, tasting her, let loose of selves.

Experiencing tidal waves of orgasmic ecstasy,
Respected men rupture their reputations,
Many a broken homes, a wrecked society–
The radiations emitting from her flight path.

The hearts of men, her flight’s destination,
An arrow poisoned with the deadliest toxin,
Evocating sensuality, men’s virtue diminishes–
Heedlessness and haughtiness, hang their heads.

time

Time, he’s timely and constant,
He waits for no man,
And he’s more expensive,
Than any substance on earth.

Time, he determines progress,
Fads and patterns wait on him,
And he’s more consistent,
Than any trendy trend that ever was.

Time, he shows no emotions,
Nor rationalisation either,
And the past, present and future,
Are meaningless themes of humanity.

Time, are you real or perceived?
We can’t see, hear, taste, touch or feel you,
And yet we sense you always.
Relativity’s breathe hinges on you.

Time, how do we define you?
A formless form or a form of formless?
A true and independent leader,
Every being and system depends on you.

Time, you are the ultimate judge,
Our deeds you rinse before our eyes,
Rich and poor, the famous and nameless,
And a few, you adorn with your lei.

Time, can you pause for a moment?
A step ahead, you always are,
We pant, trying to pace with you,
We can’t catch you, yet we try.

youthful bliss

A time ago, youthfulness was my friend;
And my solitary taste was pleasure,
Laughter was the jingle of the music,
Indulgence, my escort to and from places.

He initiated me in smoking’s abode;
Two shrines for vodka and beer, I built,
And sexuality soared through the clouds,
Mesmerising gratification, my world view.

In heightened bliss, my conscience perished;
Diffused into a seductive enigma,
And drowned in the ideals of enthralments,
Warnings, splashed as graffiti on walls, ignored.

As swirl as mighty, I slowly exhale;
A rapturous state of bungee jumping,
And the kicks I got, perpetual sovereignty,
Harder to describe, blissful to experience.

Such has been my verve, until now;
Time has metamorphosed into adulthood,
And I have not the moment to spare,
Marriage, children, work and responsibilities.

How I wish I can turn back time;
A bagful of misgivings, a pricey price to pay,
Differently, and cautiously, would I have lived.
Better late than never’, the chorus I now sing.
